As Christians, we all know that the Bible is the Word of God and that we must make it the single most important book in our lives. Yet, so many Christians barely study the Bible, let alone actually read the Bible.
Many young Christians, especially in the youth, get swayed over by the so-called "teachings" found and discussed on 30 seconds Tik-Tok videos concerning Scriptures. But, upon actually reading those "controversal" passages in its proper context, some of these passages are not actually "controversial" at all but makes reasonable and proper sense.
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16-17, ESV).
Christians are exhorted to learn, value, understand, apply, obey and speak the Bible. In order to do so, it is imperative for Christians to actually read the Scriptures.
This is the aim and purpose for EQUIP 101: Bible Reading.
We could have started our EQUIP series (101, 202, 303, 404, 505) with other pertinent topics such as Membership or Theology, but at Oikos LA, we wanted to start with Bible Reading.
During EQUIP 101: Bible Reading, we read the Bible together as a group. Before we read through chapter by chapter, we go through the following: (1) Introduction to the book; (2) Outline of the book (Useful as we read through many chapters); (3) Theological Theme of each book; (4) Purpose (Why was this book written?); and (5) Major Themes found in each book.
Books that Oikos LA read so far:
- Genesis
- Exodus
- Leviticus
- Numbers
- Deuteronomy
- Job
- Eccelesiastes
- Daniel
- Revelation
- 1 & 2 Samuel
- 1 & 2 Kings
- Isaiah [Starting December 7th, 2022]
